We had a blast at the Mayakoba Playa Fest 2016, right here in the beautiful Riviera Maya. Close to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, we sponsored the Playa Fest by providing 18 boards for the SUP races on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd of September. It was quite the military operation, and we won’t trouble you with the details, but we were glad after having succeeded and sitting behind a cold beer!
It was very windy on both days, and all participants struggled with the waves and the sea conditions. We decided to participate in the race ourselves and proudly, one of us made it third place, the other nearly passed out! Next year we’ll be going for first place!
We had the pleasure of meeting a few SUP and surf celeb’s, like Coco Nogales and Nicolas Melani from surfmex.com, and we were very charmed by SUP Yoga teacher Jessica Cichra from Wave Of Wellness who performed pretty good at the races as well.
The Aloha Paddle Club team had no problem chilling the rest of the day at the amazing pool of the Fairmont Mayakoba, right next to the beach. And at night we got ready for an amazing dinner at La Pueblita at the Mayakoba with great cocktails from Don Julio tequila.
Next year the Mayakoba Playa Fest is scheduled for July 2017 and us stand up paddle fanatics will be there for sure.
